Hi, I'm Caroline Scott and today on About.com we're going to talk about the American Curl breed.Origins of the American Curl
This is a little five month old. He's a long hair. They come in long hair and short hair varieties. They were discovered in Southern California in 1981. They're now accepted into all major associations and registered in all cat associations.American Curl Temperament
They are competitive. They are very, very friendly. They're wonderful show cats. They're wonderful for people that want to have a pet that's more like a little buddy. They're very dog like in their personalities. They can be taught to fetch very easily. They can be taught to open a door. If you open a door and come out and you just say 'okay I'm leaving now,' you'll turn around and the curl will be jumping up at the door knob trying to get it open right after you've closed it. They're very, very intelligent needless to say.American Curl Grooming
And, they're very easy to groom. You don't really require any grooming for the American Curl so it's great for families and busy people who just want to have a loving pet that they don't have to groom and take to the groomers and have knots cut out or any of that. That's not going to happen with the American Curl.American Curl Health Concerns
They have a rectangular shaped body. There is absolutely no health concern with the American Curl because it's been breed with a domestic cat from day one. We have a lot of blood line, a lot of various bloodlines in there. They're not in bred you can breed a curl to a curl without any genetic defects. But you can not do that to a Scottish Fold - you have to breed them to another breed. But the American Curl you can breed curl to curl.
