THE
AMERICAN CURL SHOW SEASON 2008 written for the CFA 2009 YEARBOOK by Caroline Scott - Breed Council Secretary 6-8-08 In the 2007- 2008 season, there were 149 longhair and shorthair American Curls competing globally in Kitten, Championship, and Premiership. Of the 68 Championship shown, 36 were international- Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Beijing, Moscow and Shanghai. Of the 46 competing kittens, 23 were internationally shown with Hong Kong dominating, along with Japan and Shanghai. Of the 35 in Premiership, there were 20 shown internationally: Canada, Germany, Sweden, Russia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia. There were 8 granding in Championship and 6 in Premiership in 2008 worldwide. There were 3 fanfare-worthy feats for 2 prominent Curl catteries: Procurl Harem celebrated a really exciting milestone with their first American Curl male DM of their breeding, GC BW NW Procurlharem Curl Hand Luke, DM, a red spotted tabby and white LH. In 2007 Caroline and Michael celebrated CFA’s first ever American Curl male DM, Daywarhim Apocurlypse Meow DM bred by Bill and Dayna Newcomer of Arizona. DBcats also celebrated a very accomplished Curl milestone by producing 2 CFA firsts this 2008 season! GC BW DBcats Flutterbye Rose, DM was not only the first SH female DM in CFA history, but she is the daughter of another DBcats LH female DM, GC DBcats Blue Rose DM becoming the first American Curl double DM. Starting with the LH division there were 2 US Regional winners and 1 International Divisional winner. Regionally GC BW RW DBcats Swiss Miss was Best of Breed globally and Northwest Region’s 22 Best Cat, bred and owned by Bruce and Diana Clark of Hayward California. Second Best of Breed Global, GC BW Manyee The Wind-Of-Africa was 10th Best Cat International/Asia and Best of Breed Internationally, bred and owned by Virginia Chiu Man Yee and Anthony Chan of Hong Kong. Third Best of Breed Global and Best of Breed in Japan was GC Fortissimo Julius of Pixyfriends, breeder Megumi Yamashita and Masako Okada of Japan. LH Premiership class produced a North Atlantic Regional Win with GP RW Procurlharem Tupac Shakurl, bred by Caroline Scott and Michael Tucker being owned and shown by Susan Baxter of Hightstown New Jersey, in her first CFA show season. In the shorthair division, DBcats The Girl From Ipanema was Best of Breed SH, bred and owned by Northwest Region’s Bruce and Diana Clark of Hayward California. Second Best of Breed SH globally and Best of Breed International/Europe was Russicurls Sweet Panther, bred and owned by Svetlana Ponomareva of Moscow Russia. Third Best of Breed SH was Curlniques Prince of Peace, bred and owned by Joe and Grace Ruga, Lake Forest California. Second Best of Breed International/Europe was Primecurl Extravaganza, breeder/owner Galina Pshenichkina of Russia. Of the 15 total shorthair Curls shown, 6 competed in Championship, 5 in kitten class and 4 in premiership, 3 of which became Grand Premiers in 2008-- all bred and owned by Bruce and Diana Clark of Region 2’s DBcats of Hayward California. The 2008 season produced another fantastic turnout for the LH and SH American Curls with the stage being set for a banner 2009 season. Good luck again to all. |
